ALABAMA STATE SENATE RECOGNIZES PRODUCERS OF "SOUTHERN HEART"
June 3, 1999
The Alabama State Senate recently passed Resolution No. 99-106 commending Jamie
Hendrix Collins and Emily Carpenter, both Alabama natives, for their
"outstanding achievement" in producing the recently released film, "Southern
Heart". On May 13, 1999, Senator Lowell Barron, President Pro Tempore,
sponsored the resolution whereby the Senate did recognize the "passion and
fulfillment of a lifelong dream" of both Ms. Collins and Ms. Carpenter and did
also recognize that the fulfillment of that dream was "fraught with unyielding
hardship and adversity but faced with equally fierce determination and
commitment".
"Our hope was to produce this film in Alabama and showcase the beauty of
Alabama" Collins said upon hearing of the Resolution, "for the Senate to
recognize "Southern Heart" as much more than simply a film, is humbling."
Shot entirely on location in picturesque Mentone, Alabama, this independently
produced feature was written and produced by Collins and Carpenter. "Southern
Heart" is a romantic comedy starring Peter DeLuise as well as Ms. Collins and
Ms. Carpenter. Having completed the script in 1989, the duo overcame incredible
adversity as they persevered to its completion when "Southern Heart" opened at
the Carmike Wynnsong to "sold out" audiences where it has been held over for a
seventh (7th) week.
"Whenever one sets out to accomplish anything worthwhile, the journey is always
filled with unforeseen obstacles. The mission is to remain focused on the
vision in which God has put in your heart and commit yourself to that vision" ,
Ms. Collins added.
