SOUTHERN HEART SET FOR RELEASE
September 20, 1999
Southern Heart, a romantic comedy starring Peter DeLuise (21 Jump Street,
SeaQuest) and introducing Jamie Hendrix Collins is scheduled for release in
selected theaters October 22, 1999.
Shot entirely on location in Mentone, Alabama, a rustic town nestled atop
picturesque Lookout Mountain, this lighthearted yet thought provoking family
film follows an up-and-coming young executive from New York to Mentone for the
purpose of buying a tract of land for his company to strip mine. Under the
pretense of acquiring the land for his private use, the executive is welcomed
by the southern hospitality of Mentone's eccentric natives, with the exception
of the beautiful but tough owner of a camp for physically and mentally disabled
children. Reluctantly, she begins to fall for him, only to discover the true
reason he wants the land. Suddenly she realizes that she may lose everything
she holds dear to her heart.
Ms. Collins together with her partner, Emily Carpenter, both natives of
Alabama, served as authors of both the story and screenplay as well as
producers. Along with Kyle Collins, they founded the Alabama limited liability
company, The Isaac Group, L.L.C., an Alabama based production company dedicated
to producing quality and entertaining films which can be enjoyed by the entire
family. Southern Heart is their first feature. From a mere vision to the final
print, the trio remained steadfast in their quest to make their dream come
true.
Both Ms. Collins and Ms. Carpenter are making their writing, producing and
feature film acting debuts in Southern Heart and, with the exception of
DeLuise, all of the remaining actors are native southerners. Collins also
contributed selections to the musical soundtrack and score.
"We laughed the whole time we were writing the script and I think that joy was
translated to the screen. It's a film that is so full of the joy and beauty of
being alive. I think it's going to be a breath of fresh air in the independent
film arena and beyond", stated Carpenter. Collins agrees, stating that for her
personally, "bundle up every good dream, throw in a little bit of struggle, and
that is what this film has meant to me, this film is proof that dreams do come
true, even the impossible ones".
